Join local battlefield preservationist and historian, Durant Ashmore, as he leads us through an encore lecture in the series on the Revolutionary War in the SC Backcountry.

    Part 2: The American Period 1775-1780: The Revolutionary War in the South Carolina backcountry (from Camden and Orangeburg to the Cherokee Territory) was a civil war. The battles between the Patriots and the Loyalists, and the Patriots and the Cherokees were of paramount importance.

    Part 3: Charleston to Musgrove Mill    : When Charleston fell on May 12, 1780, “the world turned upside down”. Within 3 months 95% of South Carolina was under British domination. The victory at Musgrove Mill on Aug. 16, 1780, provided a glimmer of hope.

    Part 4: Kings Mountain to Victory    : The momentous victory at Kings Mountain was the first of four battles in four months in the backcountry that turned the tide of history. Kings Mountain, Blackstock’s, Hammond’s Old Store, and Cowpens battles will be discussed in detail.
